Important InformationBelow is some important information to consider before disposing of certain items.
Spring Clean Up: Mondays Only - By appointment Only! - April 3rd - September 25th. There is one cleanup per property allowed per year. Do not put items at the curb without first calling the Highway Department for an appointment (914-666-8193). Please separate your metal items from the rest of your cleanup. All small items should be placed in a sturdy container not to exceed 50 pounds. For multi-tenant buildings - please ask your landlord to schedule the pickup and to coordinate the cleanup for your buildilng. Only one pickup will be scheduled for each building per year.
Bulk Items: Each property will be permitted to drop off bulk items once a month, Monday through Friday from 7:30 am until 2:30 pm. Property owners are required to provide proof of ownerfhip (water or tax bill). Tenants are required to provide proof of residence (utility bill). Do not bring construction material. For further information contact Louise Hawley at the Highway Garage (914-666-8193). Local maintenance companies are available to remove/recycle material.
Refrigerators, Air Conditioners and Bulk Metal: Do not place these items at the curb without first purchasing a sticker at a cost of $10 from the Village Hall Tax Office. Please contact the Highway Department at 666-8193 to schedule an appointment for removal.
TV's, Personal Computers and Monitors: These items can be brought to a Westchester County Household Chemical Cleanup Day Event. These items can be brought to Brookfield Metal Company in Elmsford (914-592-5250). These items can be brought to the Highway Garage.
Oil and Batteries:
Recycle motor oil at a service station or a retail outlet that sells motor oil. Drain used oil into a clean container with a tight fitting lid. Do not mix the oil with any other fluid such as antifreeze, break fluid or gasoline. For oil filters, first drain the oil from the filters. Pour the oil into a clean container for delivery to a service station as described above. Drained filters should be wrapped in newspaper and disposed of in the garbage.
Recycle vehicle batteries at the retailers who sell them. New York State Law requires retailers to accept, free of charge, up to two batteries (used or unused) per person per month.
Paint: Empty paint cans should be disposed of in your garbage with the lid off the can. Liquid paint should be hardened by mixing it with kitty litter (clay-type without chemical additives) or other absorbent pellet material (such as Speedi-Dry) until no liquid remains. Once dry leave the top off. Bring paint to the Highway Department and 43 Columbus Avenue, Mount Kisco.
Yard Waste:
Place your yard waste at the curb Monday - Wednesday. Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in biodegradable bags. These bags may be purchased at Village Hall Tax Office. Tree trimmings and brush must be tied in four-foot bundles.
Don't forget your sidewalks!!!
Please be courteous to your neighbor and remember to maintain your sidewalk - it's the law. The Village Code requires you to "keep the sidewalk free from weeds, rubbish, debris and other waste material which may interfere with a pedestrian's use of the sidewalk." Also remember that following a snow storm you must clean your sidewalk within 24 hours after the end of the storm. Also remember to widen your sidewalk so that wheelchairs can pass through.
